2017 was a busy year for Black Taj in terms of performances and appearances. He kicked it off on the 4th of march with a performance at the annual DJ Sbu’s Sbusiso Leope Education Foundation (S.L.E.F) Concert, which is a bursary drive toraise funds for students’ tertiary tuition. Many established artists were part of the roster so this was a perfect opportunity to getrecognition as a hot new-comer.
During September he dropped his first EP titled Sauce Factory. This featured his sleeper hit ‘Night and Day’, produced by DJ Abza, which he had performed earlier in the year at S.L.E.F. A grimy melodic tune with trap undertones talking about the everyday hustle that never stops “seven days a week”. Also featured is the Motswako styled ‘Shelleng’, produced by Veetaedo. A hard bass piano backed homage to the cash fueled lifestyle most city-dwellers are accustomed to.
These tracks were featured in his performance at the Soweto Spring Festival at the end of October with great reception. The festival began in 2015 and has since gained a cult following attracting the best of the best in Hip-Hop,Kwaito, House and Afro-Pop. Some of the crème de la crème he shared the stage with were DJ Tira, Sjava, Anatii, OKMalumKoolKat, Zano and many more.
Black Taj is currently working on his debutalbum which will be titled Mediocre Talk. A release date has not been set as yet but the Hip-Hop faithful are salivating in anticipation.
Besides performing and recording, Black Taj has also done a number of notable Radio interviews. Most noted being interviews for Vow FM, Alex FM and Cosmo FM. With a penchant for thrusting himself into the spotlight, there should be no doubt that Black Taj is born for this and his determination and fearlessness should see him a long way in the industry.
